One of the number one rules of physiotherapy is … motion is lotion. But why?
Our bodies thrive off movement, think about how good you feel when your up and about compared to being stuck in one position all day. For example long plane journeys, remember how your legs, back and arms begin to ache from the constant still position they are set in and how the first thing you want to do when you finally get out of that seat is to stretch and move! Yes although pills and medication have become our quick fixes it is still the motion lotion that usually will make the world of difference.
Unfortunately we are no longer in our cave hunting days, building stronger, robust and resilient bodies through hunting and gathering tasks. For the majority of us office or sitting based jobs are our reality leaving us lacking that good old motion lotion and vastly sedentary day in day out. But this does not mean there isn’t anything we can do to improve our situation and prevent or improve pain.
What Can I do To Help Myself?
A good start is to minimize sitting time – set your self 15-25 minute slots if possible. Then regularly change your position to prevent any body part being subjected to long periods of inactivity. Even walking round to fill up your water bottle is better than nothing. If you can add in some daily stretches for inspiration or good workout routines check out our free ebooks or book onto our 360 Athletic Training to get some really top quality mobility and strength work.
How Do I Get Out Of Pain?
